diving onto the pavement

It's hot and it's summer.

I'll cool down,

I'll dive into the chlorine pool

that sits in the backyard.

I'll imagine the water

is concrete

but only for a brief moment

while I hang in the air,

before I remember

to breathe in

as I dive below.

Just got to remind myself

to get back to the surface,

when my lungs began to burn.
